Not Gonna Do It...

...must have been the words that Omar Minaya spoke to every GM whenever they requested either Pelfrey, Milledge, Martinez or Gomez be included in one of their potential trades. Apparently, the Mets were sticking to their guns when it came time to acquire Nats reliever, Chad Cordero, of whom Omar deemed it wasn't worth trading potential front-line starter Philip Humber AND another top prospect for a reliever who isn't a super-stopper. It would have been nice to have him setting up Wagner, along with Heilman and Feliciano, but not at the cost of two of our top prospects, of which we have less than a dozen.

It's been no secret that the Mets have some great top level prospects, and then there is a hole in the "middle" of their depth chart, as it were, making it a bit harder to pull off deals such as the one made by the Braves for Texiera. Better to make no deal than being pulled into one that means giving up more than a player is worth. This doesn't mean that something won't happen between now and the end of the waiver period August 31st, but it does make it improbable that anything else of any significance will happen.

Luis Castillo, Pedro, Moises, Duaner, Carlos Gomez & Carlos Beltran all healthy make this a much stronger team, and we still have all of our top prospects...and last I looked, we ARE still in first place right now, correct?

Matt Morris was traded to the Pirates for a pair of minor leaguers, if anyone is interested...and yes, the inevitable questions of "why didn't Omar pry him from Sabaen's hands" will now begin...
