Fire Sale?

From Ed Ryan at Mets Fever (Network Member):

No it's not on the scale of the Marlins but it is noteworthy due to one player, Johan Santana. The Twins continue to trade away the veteran members of the club and are obviously looking at a rebuilding phase. Santana who is a free agent at the end of the 2008 season, has already expressed his dissatisfaction with the team trading Luis Castillo. Since then Santana has remained silent, but the next week the team let veteran utility infielder Jeff Cirillo go to the D-Backs and today they traded veteran starting pitcher Ramon Ortiz to the Rockies. My hope is that if Santana gets disgruntled enough that the Twins will trade him, but even if he stays next year the way the team is conducting business he will more then likely test the free agent waters.

Rockies acquired RHP Ramon Ortiz from the Twins for infielder Matt Macri.Ortiz isn't the answer, but neither was Josh Towers nor Steve Trachsel. Ortiz had a 5.75 ERA in 10 starts for the Twins in April and May. He had since worked out of the pen as a mopup man, compiling a 4.15 ERA. The Rockies figure to use him as a starter, though he's unlikely to go in place of Aaron Cook on Thursday. Elmer Dessens is still expected to get the nod then. source Rotoworld
