Game Recap:: Marlins 8 -- Mets 1

And there is your 2007 New York Mets season...

Tom Glavine got absolutely rocked. The Mets lost 8-1 today, with the Marlins putting up 7 runs in the first inning. The Mets just suffered the worst collapse in Major League Baseball history. See you next year.

It's simple to find fault today, as Tom Glavine only notched up one out, got rocked for 5 hits and 7 earned runs. He walked two and struck out none. Today was Glavines worst start ever, and I would be surprised if he was a Met next year.

...just the worst time for this kind of start...
...take away his disaster outing, and it was a tied game...but thats not possible...
...Glavine had a nice run with the Mets, and this was not the kind of send off i was envisioning...
...thanks for the time you put in with us Tommy, it was a great ride...

The bullpen looked absolutely amazing today, only allowing one run after being asked to get 26 outs.
Jorge Sosa allowed one hit, which plated two runs that belonged to Tom Glavine, but struck out 4 batters in 1.2 innings of work.

...should have started Sosa, but hey, hindsight is 20/20...

Orlando Hernandez pitched one inning, allowing only one hit.
Scott Schoeneweis gave up the only other run for the Mets, pitching 1.1 innings, giving up 2 hits and one walk. He struck out 2 while on the bump. Schoe went 1-2-3 in his first inning, but got roughed up when he came out for a second inning.

...he started off the season looking so awful, but as the season progressed he looked better and better...he finished strong, but couldn't win over Mets fans with his 5 ERA...

Joe Smith pitched 1.1 innings, showing off what we came to know from him earlier in the year as he allowed one hit, while striking out 4 batters.

...hopefully next year he will be a key part of our much improved bullpen...**cough**OMAR!**cough**...

Pedro Feliciano pitched .1 innings, striking out the only batter he faced. Feliciano finished out the season with a 3.09 ERA. He started so well, and struggled lately, most likely due to overwork.

...one of the most underrated relievers in the league for sure...see you next year...

Guillermo Mota pitched 2 innings of shut out baseball, only allowing one hit, while striking out 1. Mota was in the doghouse with the fans all year, but was still one of Willies favorites.

...it will be VERY interesting to see what happens to him in the offseason...

Aaron Heilman looked great again, pitching one inning, and striking out one. Heilman finished with a 3.03 ERA. He was a great setup man for Wagner all year.

...hopefully he doesn't whine that he's not a starter again...haha...

Now to the offense, which was very quiet after yesterdays outburst, and left way too mant runners on base...10 to be exact.

Jose Reyes went 0-5, popping up for 4 of his outs.

...he got BOO'd and he deserved it...his mind hasn't been in the game for the past 2 months, and it shows...he hurt the team big time...but he's young, and i garuntee next year will be different...

Luis Castillo went 1-4 with a walk, scoring once. Castillo picked up the only extra base hit for the Mets with a first inning double, he also struck out once.

...i would love to have him back next year...bad knee and all...

David Wright likes to hit at the end and beginning of the season. He went 1-4 today, bringing his hit streak up to 17 games.

...just an amazing season for Wright...heres to many more!...

Carlos Beltran went 2-4 on the day, with 2 singles.
Moises Alou went 1-3, with a walk and a K today.

...both of these guys played through injuries, and both were huge contributors to this team...i'd like to have Alou back for one more year, even with his track record with the injuries...

Carlos Delgado was hit by a pitch in his only at bat of the game, and suffered a fractured hand.

...it was a down year for Carlos, for sure...
...hopefully next year he will recover well from this injury and get back to the big bat swinging we're used to...

Ramon Castro crushed a ball to the warning track with the bases loaded in the first, which would've cut the lead to 2 runs. Castro thought he got all of it, but came up feet short. He ended up going 0-4 on the day.

...please sign him...he's the best backup catcher i've seen...

...so here's to Mets baseball in 2008...see you then...

Game Ball:: The Fans, who were out in droves today to support our guys. Well done by all of you to get out there for you team! See you next year!
