Changing Gears

From Ed Ryan at Mets Fever (Network Member):

I think it's time for the Mets to acquire the best available free agents to fill the holes they have with the pitching staff. It seems like there isn't a team out there that respects our prospects and it doesn't appear that a trade can be done. Fill the holes and allow the kids another year to develop. Apparently Omar spent all of yesterday speaking with agents, which might be an indication he's thinking the same thing. Whats amazing is in one year that collapse cost us a playoff run, status as a team players wanted to come and respect for the organization ( a year ago teams were dying for our players Heilman/Milledge deal was everywhere). I'm astonished that Wells is basically begging for an interview.....

Meanwhile, the reps for David Wells are trying to get an audience with the Mets, noting that the ex-Yankee is seeking only a one-year contract and is a good influence on young pitchers, but they've yet to get an audience with Omar Minaya. The Mets GM did meet yesterday with the agent for Octavio Dotel and Shawn Chacon, and at least is talking with Carlos Silva's rep. The Mets had bid on Japanese free agent Hiroki Kuroda, but he's expected to wind up with theMariners, Dodgers or Diamondbacks after visiting all three teams next week. source Daily News
