HOFer Carter Gets Job in the O.C.

Former Met catcher and member of the Hall-of-Fame, "the Kid" Gary Carter (and former Mets' minor league manager) has been announced as the new manager of the Orange County Flyers, as posted on their website two days ago. The Orange County Flyers are a 3 year-old, Professional Independent Baseball Team in the Golden Baseball League. They play an 88-game schedule with 44 home games in Fullerton, CA. They were previously called the Fullerton Flyers. Carter is a former resident of Fullerton, having gone to high school there. The Mets' loss is certainly Fullerton's gain.

We have been a strong proponent of the Mets' bringing Carter along through their minor league system so that he could one day be their major league manager. That won't happen now, at least. We are happy for Carter, and hope that this will lead to his being offered a high level minor league manager's job that he has pined for the last few years. I'll attend a game later this year, hoping to get an interview with the "kid" for our blog, and from time to time let you know how he's doing in this next stage of his managerial career.

Go, Kid!!!!
