Delgado On Mets Pursuit Of Santana

David Lennon at Newsday writes about Carlos Delgado and his feelings on Johan Santana:

Delgado spoke to reporters yesterday for the first time since cleaning out his locker in October and touched on a number of issues, among them the Mets' attempts to trade for Santana.

"I never use the word 'need' just because we really don't need anything but oxygen," Delgado said during the conference call, "but it would be nice to have a guy like Johan Santana ... When you bring a guy of that caliber, obviously it's going to make a team better. But 'what is he going to cost you?' would be the next question.

"I'm not saying that we wouldn't like to have him, but if it doesn't work out, we have to go out and play with what we got. And I believe that we have enough with what we've got."
