Carp Struggling

Mike Carp is playing pretty terrible right now for the Scottsdale Scorpions of the Arizona Fall League. Carp, who batted .251 with 11 home runs, 48 rbis, and 55 runs in 97 games for AA Binghamton has yet to find his groove. In his last 6 games, Carp is 3 for his last 21 with 3 strikeouts. After a 2006 season where Carp hit .287 with 17 homers, 88 RBIs and 69 runs scored in 137 games for A Advanced St. Lucie along with finishing third in the Florida State League in total bases (221), second in RBIs, fourth in hits (141) and second in games (137), it seemed Carp was on the fast track to playing for the Mets. But, a wrist injury took away most of Carps season and he has not put up the same power numbers since.

Cordero For Humber? Looks Like A Go

I am not sure about the idea of trading a potential front-of-the-rotation starter for a reliever who is not only not a power-pitcher but is also not being relied upon as our closer (that would STILL be one fire-balling Billy Wagner, thank you very much!), but the Mets are apparently very close to trading Humber for Cordero in what may end up being a larger deal when all is said and done. Could it also include Jon Rauch? Possible...we'll keep you posted.

Apparently it will also cost one of Mike Carp or Kevin Mulvey. I think the Nats will choose Mulvey and get another pitching prospect.

Minor League Tracker: Mike Carp

At Rotoworld, they write about Mike Carp:

Mets prospect Mike Carp, out since early May with a broken finger, went 1-for-4 in his first game for Single-A St. Lucie on Monday.

Carp was at Double-A before getting hurt and likely will return there soon.

Minor League Tracker: Carp On The DL

Mike Carp is list as #6 on the Mets top ten prospect list and is a leading candidate to replace Carlos Delgado when he decides to move on (hopefully not for few years). Carp impressed the organization this year during spring training a stayed with the parent club well after most minor leaguers had recieved their assignments. In 24 spring training games Carp batted .233, OBP .313, SLG .372, 7 RBIs, 1 HR and 3 doubles. Rob K. of Flushing University reports that Carp is on the DL with a broken finger:

One of the Mets top prospects, Mike Carp will be sidelined anywhere between four and five weeks with a broken bone in his ring finger. The injury occurred when Carp was sliding into second base on a routine double play. New Britain shortstop Trevor Plouff hit Carp’s hand as he was attempting to complete the double play on his throw to first base.

"It still hurts, but otherwise I feel good," Carp said before Friday's game against Portland. "It was kind of a fluke injury."
