Willie's contract not done yet

Michael Morrissey at the NY Post, writes about Omar Minaya, Willie Randolph and why his contract extension isn't done yet:

On Monday, Randolph said all was quiet with negotiations. Yesterday, GM Omar Minaya indicated the two sides haven't found common ground on extending Randolph, whose three-year pact runs out after 2007.

"They have expressed to us that look; this is going to take some time," Minaya said. "Managers' contracts, especially when he still is under contract for another year, there's no time frame of doing this.

"It takes some time, but we are talking to them, and hopefully we will be able to get something done."

Randolph doesn't seem concerned, preferring to look on the bright side. After waiting years for his shot, he's 180-144 with a division title in two seasons.

"I have a contract for next year, and that's how I'm going to think about it, to honor that," he said. "But if the organization sees fit that they want to have me around for years to come, then that's pretty much their call."
