Game Recap:: Padres 5 -- Mets 4

GAH!!!!!! I thought we had this game with the comeback!

John Maine had an "ok" start, the Mets came from behind, but fell short, losing to the Padres by a score of 5-4. Joe Smith took the loss, giving up a run in the bottom of the 8th inning. Maine didn't have his best start, but his defense did not help him. Delgado let a ball go by in the first, which was credited with a hit, and eventually led to 2 runs. Maine went 6 innings, giving up 7 hits and 4 earned runs. John walked 2 and struck out 5. Maine picked up his 100th strikeout of the season.

...well, not his best stuff, but he kept us in the game...

Joe Smith gave up a single with 2 on in the bottom of the 8th to give the lead back to the Padres after David Wright tied it up in the top of the inning.

...he needs a little Rick Peterson fine tuning...

The Mets got pretty much shut down by Greg Maddux, who luckily took himself out of the game in the 6th inning. The Mets scratched back against a very good San Diego bullpen. Delgado knocked a solo home run in the top of the 7th, and after Scott Linebrink walked Jose Valentin and Carlos Beltran, David Wright knocked a 3-run home run.

...too bad...
...i wish we could've come back, and picked up games on the Braves and Phillies...

...grrrrr! this really makes me mad...

Game Ball:: Wright.
