Game Recap:: Mets 13 -- Marlins 0

John Maine is an amazing man...

John Maine carried a no hitter into the 8th inning, until it was broken up by a 35-foot swinging bunt by a backup catcher, and the Mets offense exploded as they crushed the Marlins by a score of 13-0. The benches also cleared twice, once ending in a brawl mainly between Jose Reyes and Miguel Olivo. Olivo charged Reyes, who was on third base, and Sandy Alomar Sr. and Miguel Cabrera had to step between them to hold Olivo and Reyes back. Alomar Sr. actually took a swing from Olivo off the side of the head. Mike DiFelice and Oliver Perez each went a bit crazy, as DiFelice had to be held back, as did Perez who may have taken a punch or two.

John Maine was absolutely on today. 7 and 2/3, 1 hit, 2 walks, and 14 strikeouts! FOURTEEN! Amazing performance. It looked as though John could have had the no hitter, until Paul Hoover, the backup backup catcher dinked a hit up the third base line to a spot where it was impossible for Wright to make a play.

...so close...
...just stellar from Maine...we needed a good performancce, and this more than exceeded expectations...

Willie Collazo and Carlos Muniz combined to finish out the game, neither of them allowing a hit. Muniz picked up 1 strikeout as he worked the 9th inning, bringing the team total up to 15 on the day.

...nice to give the regulars a day off and get a good look at the young guys pitching well...

The offense absolutely exploded today, combining for 19 hits and 4 walks. Stick with me as I try and sift through the mass of offense today...

Luis Castillo was huge today, going 3-4, with a walk. He drove in 2 RBIs and scored twice. He hit 2 doubles in todays game.

...he continues to impress me...
...sign him for next year??...

David Wright also picked up 3 hits and a walk, as he drove in one run and crossed the plate 3 times.

...think he'll get MVP?...

Moises Alou went 2-4 today, driving in 2 RBIs, both with 2 outs.

...he broke his 0-8 slump after his hitting streak, let's hope he gets hot again!...

Carlos Delgado also picked up 2 hits, and drove in 2 RBI. One of those RBI's came with 2 outs, a thing the Mets have been lacking lately.

The bottom of the order was huge today, hitting all 3 home runs for the Mets.
Ramon Castro went 2-5, driving in one RBI and scoring 2 runs. Castro blasted a home run to deep left field, bouncing it off the retired numbers sign in the 6th inning.

...please sign him...let him split time with whoever else is catching next year...

Lastings Milledge broke out in a big way, going 3-5, blasting 2 home runs, driving in 3 and scoring 3 times. L-Millz hit a 2-run blast in the 3rd inning and a solo shot in the 5th inning. Both HR's were to deep left.

...wow...i questioned Milledge playing today, and boy was i wrong...

...GO NATIONALS!...
