More from the Pegasus Star

If you didn't see my previous post from Blair Lovern at Pegasus News, then I suggest you use the link to it or scroll down to it. Anyway, she's back after many Mets fans fired rants back at her tearing down her story. Here's some exerpts from it. And by the way, leave a comment for her if you get the chance:

I made a principle point multiple times about winning championships. That is the reason to play sports professionally, as I see it. I don't think I am in much disagreement here with you Mets people with that point. How do I know this? Because you Mets people swooped in here to defend your team. HOW DARE YOU CALL MY TEAM A LOSER, YOU LOSER!

But, hey, guess what? You've got Sly Stalone in there with you, or Mickey, if you're into the classics. Willie Randolph is no idiot. He knows what he's doing. You just keep slugging that freezer meat with your bare hands and one day you might be on top of the world, and we'll all throw you a big fat party and know that the rest of the universe can go to hell because the Mets are better than everyone everywhere on all planets and star systems, not just ours, which technically means nothing unless you are an actual Met - and even then, in the grand scheme of life, IT'S A @#$%! BASEBALL GAME!

Pssst. Guess what else? I don't think the Rangers are at The Latin Snake level yet, either. Oh, but one day Texas will rise. And that team will STRIKE like a black mamba, and you Mets people will have to take an antidote shot from a nurse who looks kinda like Ron Washington, but you're too woozy to be sure. But don't fret. The nurse will have mercy on you, as she sits next to your bed, gently holding your hand as you watch the Texas victory parade on TV that we will start planning in Dallas next Thursday (inside joke.)

So, to summarize AGAIN: when your team wins the World Series then you will be a winner.

Right now, your team is not a winner, Mets people.

Ouch, the sting!

You are a loser when it comes to World Series trophies during the past generation. That is all. Nothing more, nothing less. If this is an impossible point to comprehend, I cannot make it any simpler. You may lead meaningful lives, outside of being a Mets fan. Maybe you're a teacher or doctor or artist or social worker. Maybe you touch the lives of others by doing God's work in ways that may never be fully appreciated. You should be proud of yourselves. You're a good father, a good mother, a good brother, a good sister, a good jigsaw puzzle assembler (I'm talking like a really kick-ass puzzle), a hard worker. You make this country stronger every day. I am not being silly here, I speak the truth: Thanks for doing what you do.

But until that gay looking Mr. Met mascot rides on a float down Broadway with the rest of the team and The Rockettes, and there's so much confetti in the air that it's like being in static - your team will be, ah, a loser.

I leave you with this: if I could only have one wish, it would be that you Mets people get Barry Zito for nine years and $253 million. Ridiculous, huh?

Exactly.

Thank you for participating in the previous discussion. I've thrown you more than enough raw flesh. So why don't you rabid beasts come and get it.

Who really is the better team?

So today I stumbled across a little article by Blair Lovern at the Pegasus News, entitled "Screw you New York Mets".

As this enraged me quite a bit, I am not about to jump into any hasty arguments without doing my research first to see who indeed is the better team right now and not 20 or 10 years ago. I will compare each position player agenst each other and give the edge to whoever is best in defense and offense.

First Base:

Mets: Carlos Delgado - Carlos had a .265 BA, 38 HR, 114 RBI, 0 SB and a Fielding percentage of .994.
Rangers: Mark Texteria - Mark had a .282 BA, 33 HR, 110 RBI, 2 SB and a fielding percentage of .997.
Edge: Rangers

Second Base:

Mets: Jose Valentin - Jose had a .271 BA, 18 HR, 62 RBI, 6 SB and a fielding percentage of .988.
Rangers: Ian Kinsler - Ian had a .286 BA, 14 HR, 55 RBI, 11SB and a fielding percentage of .973.
Edge: Mets

Short Stop:

Mets: Jose Reyes - Jose had a .300 BA, 19 HR, 81 RBI, 61 SB and a fielding percentage of .971.
Rangers: Michael Young - Michael had a .314 BA, 14 HR, 103 RBI, 7 SB and a fielding percentage of .981.
Edge: Mets

Third Base:

Mets: David Wright - David had a .311 BA, 26 HR, 116 RBI, 20 SB and a fielding percentage of .954 .
Rangers: Hank Blalock - Hank had a .266 BA, 16 HR, 89 RBI, 1 SB and a fielding percentage of .963.
Edge: Mets

Right Field:

Mets: Shawn Green - Shawn had a .277 BA, 15 HR, 56 RBI, 4 SB and a fielding percentage of .949.
Rangers: Nelson Cruz - Nelson had a .223 BA, 6 HR, 22 RBI, 1 SB and a fielding percentage of 1.000.
Edge: Mets

Center Field:

Mets: Carlos Beltran - Carlos had a .275 BA, 41 HR, 116 RBI, 18 SB, a fielding percentage of .995 and the 2006 Golden Glove.
Rangers: Kenny Lofton - Had a 301 BA, 3 HR, 41 RBI, 32 SB and a fielding percentage of .988.
Edge: Mets

Left Field:

Mets: Moises Alou - Moises had a .301 BA, 22 RBI, 74 RBI, 2 SB and a fielding percentage of .978.
Rangers: Brad Wilkerson - Brad had a .222 BA, 15 HR, 44 RBI, 3 SB and a fielding percentage of .993.
Edge: Mets

Catcher:

Mets: Paul Lo Duca - Paul had a .318 BA, 5 HR, 49 RBI, 3 SB and a fielding percentage of .987.
Rangers: Gerald Laird - Gerald had a .296 BA, 7 HR, 22 RBI, 3 SB and a fielding percentage of .986.
Edge: Mets

So if the season started today the Mets would have the better position players by a count of 7 to 1.
I really thought it was going to be alot closer than that. Oh well.

Some fighting words from Texas

Blair Lovern at the Pegasus News, writes about the Mets comments to Zito:

Yeah, that's awesome. How many World Series trophies have the Mets had in the past 20 years? One. Congrats. That was 20 freakin' years ago. I've owned at least five cars since then. Maybe six, I don't know.

But they made it to the WS in 2000, doesn't that count?

No, they lost. A loser is not a winner.

How many postseason appearances have the Mets had in the past 10 years? Three. How many have the Rangers had? Three.

But the Mets won the division last year, doesn't th-

HUSHTHATFUSS! No. They lost in the first round of the playoffs. A loser is not a winner.

But the Rangers haven't been in the playoffs since 1999.

Exactly. I'm not calling them winners either. I'm just saying that these people and/or teams clamoring for Barry Zito, claiming they are the best thing in sports since the invention of the jock strap need a reality check. And so do the people who think they need to reward an above average pitcher on the same level as a dominant ace.

First off, Blair, get your facts right. The Mets lost in the seventh game of the NLCS, not the NLDS.

I'm not going to wast anymore time on this. It's just absurd. Not that the Mets are better than the Rangers. But that it's arguing for the sake of a player's affection.
